Hummingbird, an AI-powered orchestration platform for financial crime compliance, has acquired Quantimon, a machine learning platform for AML risk detection; terms were not disclosed. Quantimon’s models learn from how alerts are resolved and its federated learning network is designed to let institutions benefit from patterns seen elsewhere without sharing customer data, and its team is joining Hummingbird to enhance its transaction monitoring product. The main objective is to apply machine learning and AI to AML transaction monitoring, where rule-based systems generate alerts that mostly turn out to be noise, by feeding the structured dispositions recorded when AI agents and analysts work alerts back into detection so it improves over time. Key players include Hummingbird co-founder and CEO Joe Robinson, who said every alert worked by an AI agent or analyst should sharpen detection, and Quantimon co-founder and CEO Ben Duranske, who previously worked on compliance at Apple, Xoom, and PayPal.
