Whop, a Palo Alto-based platform that helps people start, run, and scale online businesses, has raised $205 million at a $5.1 billion valuation, per Bloomberg, in a round led by Sequoia Capital with the venture arm of Shopify; Whop’s own announcement describes it as a $200 million Series D. Doug Leone, the former Sequoia leader, is joining Whop’s board in his first deal since returning to active investing, and the valuation is more than triple the $1.6 billion set when Tether invested $200 million in February. The ecommerce platform has passed $400 million in annualized run-rate revenue, up from $60 million at the start of last year, and takes a blended average fee of about 6% of transactions, with roughly 25,000 operators generating $550 million in monthly sales. The main objective is to fund global expansion and R&D in payments, advertising, and AI-enabled business tools, including its recent Business Blueprints, Whop CLI, and Economic Intelligence launches. Key players include Whop co-founder and CEO Steven Schwartz, co-founder Cameron Zoub, and lead investors Sequoia and Shopify Ventures.
