Standard Chartered has signed definitive agreements to acquire 100% of Zodia Custody Limited, the digital asset custodian it co-founded in 2020 with Northern Trust, including its regulated entities in Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia, the UAE, and Luxembourg; financial terms were not disclosed, and closing is subject to regulatory approvals. Zodia’s custody business will be folded into the bank’s existing digital asset custody operations within its Securities Services unit, while Zodia’s software and professional services arm will be spun out as Zodia Solutions under SC Ventures, the bank’s fintech division. The main objective is to consolidate Standard Chartered’s crypto and blockchain custody offering into a single institutional-grade platform backed by an international cross-border bank. Key players include Ying Ying Tan, global head of securities services and digital assets at Standard Chartered, Zodia Custody CEO Richard Clark, who took over after Julian Sawyer’s September departure, and Craig Perrin, CEO of Zodia Solutions.
