The New York Stock Exchange and crypto brokerage Blockchain.com have announced a “strategic collaboration” to explore selling tokens representing NYSE-listed stocks and ETFs on blockchain, with the companies not yet disclosing which countries the products would be sold in. As part of the deal, NYSE parent Intercontinental Exchange will distribute Blockchain.com’s crypto market data and analytics, while Blockchain.com will incorporate NYSE data into its app. The main objective is capital markets tech expansion into tokenization, letting both companies “bet on where capital markets are heading” as blockchain-based stock tokens—which typically don’t carry the same shareholder rights as traditional equities—enable trading outside standard market hours; Blockchain.com has already begun selling tokenised stocks to customers in Europe. The move follows the SEC’s new exemption allowing platforms to sell blockchain-based versions of stocks and other securities without following many stock-exchange rules. Key players include NYSE and Blockchain.com, whose partnership marks the latest instance of a mainstream exchange moving to capture tokenization’s momentum.
