Mural, a New York-based payments startup founded by former Palantir engineers, has raised a $15 million Series A led by Tether, the issuer of the USDT stablecoin, with participation from North Island Ventures and existing investors, bringing total funding to $28 million; valuation was not disclosed. Mural gives payroll providers, software companies, and fintechs a single account that holds traditional dollars, local currencies, and stablecoin balances, handling the licenses, bank relationships, and local and blockchain payment rails needed to operate across markets. The main objective is to expand its platform as a compliant system of record for businesses managing international payments, bridging bank accounts and stablecoin rails, with Tether framing its investment partly as a bet on payments for AI agents. Key players include Mural co-founders Sinclair Toffa and Chris Fernandes, who started the company in 2022, and lead investor Tether.
