TrueLayer, the London-based open banking payments company, has received a $27 million investment led by CDP Venture Capital, the venture arm of Italian public development bank Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, which manages €4.9 billion in assets. The money will go toward developing TrueLayer’s Pay by Bank technology for account-to-account payments and funding a new hiring drive, with Milan serving as a core engineering hub; roughly a quarter of the company’s 280 employees are based in Italy, and it plans to keep hiring there in 2027. The main objective is to accelerate open banking payments growth in Europe, following recent acquisitions of Nordic competitor Zimpler and split-payments firm In3. Key players include TrueLayer co-founder and CEO Francesco Simoneschi and co-founder and CTO Luca Martinetti, both Italian nationals, and lead investor CDP Venture Capital, joining a backer base that includes Connect Ventures, Anthemis Group, Temasek, Mouro Capital, Tencent, Addition, and Stripe.
