Numeral, a San Francisco-based AI-powered sales tax compliance platform, has raised $100 million in Series C funding led by Insight Partners, with participation from Salesforce Ventures, Geodesic, Benchmark, Mayfield, FCVC, Y Combinator, and Uncork, bringing total funding to $157 million. Numeral, founded in 2023, pairs a deterministic tax engine with AI and in-house specialists to handle the full lifecycle of sales tax, VAT, and GST compliance across more than 90 countries—nexus tracking, registrations, filing, rate calculation, remittance, and exemption certificate management—for an ISV client base that has grown transaction volume 327% year-over-year. The main objective is to accelerate product development and expand into new industries including software, manufacturing, distribution, and wholesale, as regulatory complexity grows; California, for instance, will extend sales and use tax to prewritten software including SaaS starting in 2027. Key players include Numeral co-founder and CEO Sam Ross, who said “sales tax has become a much bigger operational challenge,” and Insight Partners managing director Rebecca Liu-Doyle, who called the round a bet that AI enables sophisticated tax infrastructure “within reach of businesses that previously lacked access.”
