AIUC (Artificial Intelligence Underwriting Company), an insurtech building the audit, certification, and insurance infrastructure needed to bring AI agents into the enterprise, has closed a $40 million Series A led by Ribbit Capital, with participation from First Harmonic, adding to its $15 million seed led by Nat Friedman’s NFDG to bring total funding to $55 million. The main objective is to extend AIUC’s audits, standards, and insurance from individual AI agents to frontier models, giving enterprises a way to adopt AI with confidence through its AIUC-1 certification and accompanying insurance coverage. Founded in 2025 by Rune Kvist, Anthropic’s first product hire, and Rajiv Dattani, a former McKinsey insurance partner and COO of METR, the company draws an explicit parallel to Underwriters Laboratories, which insurers funded to test and certify electrical products in the early 20th century. Key players include AIUC co-founder Rajiv Dattani, who said “AI needs the same combination of standards, testing and insurance” that UL brought to electricity, and Ribbit Capital general partner Nick Shalek, who praised the founders for solving AI assurance’s “cold-start problem.”
