Visa has launched its Tap to Confirm and Tap to Activate IDV technology in partnership with fintech Keyno and Fidelity Bank (Bahamas). This enables cardholders to verify their identity or activate a new card by tapping their physical Visa card to their mobile device within a bank app. The system uses the card’s EMV chip as the authentication factor, replacing one-time passcodes and call-center verification with a possession-based credential. Visa states this reduces issuer costs and improves security. Strategically, Visa is positioning the physical payment card as a reusable identity credential, with global expansion planned through 2026.
