HSBC Australia has become the first major bank in Australia to offer venture debt funding, providing loans to scale-ups between AUD 10 million and AUD 30 million. The move toward venture lending expands the funding options available to Australian businesses who have been dealing with a capital market inefficiency (capital shortfall) for late-stage growth firms. HSBC’s venture debt product is designed for scale-ups backed by late-stage venture capital, and it will come with access to specialized banking services, including HSBC APIs and digital payment solutions.
